Recommendations for Wi-Fi setup for IoT Smart Home devices
This Article Applies to:
1. Disable Wi-Fi Band Steering:
- Ensure that IoT devices are connected specifically to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band by disabling the Wi-Fi band steering. (default setting is enabled)
2. Adjust Wi-Fi Encryption Settings:
- Many IoT smart home devices use lower Wi-Fi mode and encryption standards.
- Change the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi mode to 802.11 b/g/n/ax mixed (without BE) and set the security to WPA2-PSK only to prevent unstable or no connection issues.
3. Select Less Congested Channels:
- Choose a less congested 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel with a lower channel width to avoid unstable connections caused by congestion or interference. Channel congestion status can be checked via a third-party APP that is related to Wi-Fi performance, and it will show the status as below, for example:
