How to reset JetSteam (TM) series switches to factory default by using Hyper Terminal

There are two ways to restore JetSteamTM series switches to factory default, one is to use the web interface, but sometimes you may not be able to log on the web interface. In this case, you should use console to restore it to factory default. This way only should be used when you have forgotten the user name or the password. In this case, you should use console to restore it to factory default.

Use serial cable to connect your switch to a computer. Then power off the switch.

Step 1:

On your computer click start-> All Programs-> Accessories -> Communications-> Hyper Terminal to run Hyper Terminal. And there will pop up a dialog box as Picture 1 shows. Enter a name, here we use test for example. Then click OK.

Then you will see Picture 2, just click OK.

Step 2:

Change Port Settings as Picture 3 shows.

Bits per second: 38400

Data bits: 8

Parity: None

Stop bits: 1

Flow control: None

Then click OK.

Step 3:

Power on the switch, when you see Press CTRL-B to enter the bootrom (or bootutil), please press CTRL+B quickly, then you will see Picture 4.

Step 4:

Please input reset after “[TP-LINK]:”, and press Enter. Then input reboot after“[TP-LINK]:”, and press Enter again. Then you will see the switch is rebooting as Picture 5. And the switch will be restored to factory default.

Note: Please DO NOT do any other operations, or it may damage your switch.
